Wow typical babies r us. I have never had a good experience there! You should try Target if you have that in your area. You can expect to get about 60% of what you register for if you keep things in the mid to low range on prices. Unless all your friends and family are made of money. You dont need a second car seat base- the seatbelt is easier and just as safe. You will get lots of clothes so dont even register for them. People like to pick those out on thier own. Same with blankets, pick some that go with your nursery theme and make sure people know if you have one. As for the big items sometimes shower hostesses or your family will get together to get one. Good luck!
That is a ridiculous list. The only things you really, truly NEED to care for a newborn are:
- Something to feed it (if you're planning to breast feed, you don't need anything, or formula and a few bottles if you don't plan to breastfeed)
- Someplace safe for it to sleep (bassinet, crib, cosleeper, etc)
- Diapers (cloth or disposable -- don't buy too many Newborn or Size 1's because you don't know how big the baby will be)
- A few clothing items (onesies in the summer or sleepers in the winter are just fine for a newborn)
- A few blankets
- A car seat
Everything is else is just a nice-to-have. I would suggest taking that list and marking off the items you truly NEED in one color, the ones that you would VERY MUCH like to have in another color, and the ones you don't really care about in another color, and then make your registry from there.

oh wow you dont need every type of stroller to begin with. i started with a used full size one and found i couldnt even use it. i couldnt get it in and out of my trunk of with it took up all the room in my trunk which i didnt like. that would have been 100-200 out the window right there. i have a mid weight one and love it it fits between a myride 65 (hugest one i have seen) car seat and the back of the front seat. and i love it.
heres what i have right now and have used majority of the time:
exerciser
high chair
crib
convertable car seat
stroller
1 larger diaper bag for longer outings
1 small diaper bag for a quick run to the store
2 crib sheets and remember that there should be nothing else in the crib not even a blanket anyway so that 100 dollar bed set is useless anyway until baby is about 1 yo
a few sweater zip up jackets when its not freezing those full size head to toe ones just get annoying.
and a good amount of clothes. just buy what you think is cute not necessary quantity my son has a ton of clothes we havent even used. we wash clothes 2x a week so thats about 7 outfits per wash for him.

Yaaaa...you don't need 95% of that stuff...lol
Okay....so here is what I needed and used in the 1st week
Infant car seat
Stroller (I actually had 2...1 regular and 1 jogger..but the jogger was borrowed...I didn't need it, but was super glad I had it as it was easier to work with on hills and in the park etc)
Diaper bag
Diapers and wipes
Sleepers/onesies/socks/pants/shirts any other clothing you want/need
Crib and crib sheets
Monitor
Bassinette or playyard or cradle...whatever you want to use while baby is in your room beside your bed - i still don't own a playyard, we used a borrowed cradle and that was fine...my son is 16 months...sometimes I wish I had a playyard, but you definitely do not need one
Breast pump and storage bags
Bottles/nipples (if you are breastfeeding, you only need 1 or 2 bottles...I had 3 and never opened the 3rd bottle...I only used 1 and left 1 at my mom's house so that if she was watching him she could put frozen breastmilk in the bottle...hence the breast pump
They don't need toys for some time...they don't play with toys in the first week...but it is nice to have some car seat toys for entertainment
A play mat is very nice to have
Soothers (2 or 3)
Soother clip
Vitamin D drops
Bouncer/swing...I had both, but only needed 1..he would sleep in the swing, it was awesome!
Breast pads and cream (For sore nipples)
Burp cloths...but you can use old towels too
Infant Bathtub (very cheep...just a regular one, you don't need the ones with hoses/showers etc)
Wash cloths/towels..again you can use regular ones
Mild baby bath soap
Gripe Water (excellent for gas etc) non-alcoholic
Cornstarch (Not peneten etc for diaper rash) this works way better and is much milder on skin!
Hmmmm...that is about it!!
There are things that are nice to have...and you can totally decide and ask for those things too...but the must haves are above!
Hope this helps!

Jill P is spot on. I was so anxious having my first... I thought she would miss out or suffer if I didn't have something on those stupid lists.
Food, some clothes, diapers, safe place to sleep. ;) (And car seat to get home from the hospital... unless you're planning a home birth, then I guess you don't need one!)
The other stuff is nice, but definitely not a must have. Think of how many women in history all over the planet have raised healthy, happy babies.
One thing I was happy to have that wasn't an "absolute must have" was washcloths/burp cloths. My babies spit up all over the place those first 2 months. Good luck!

That is overkill if I've ever seen it! I would recommend Target over Toys r Us any day; they have a higher quality selection and just some really cute stuff. Here is a list of everything that I needed with my son. I really hope it helps.
Travel system (carrier that fits into stroller and doubles as car seat, comes with a base for car)
Crib and matress
Sheets for crib
Bottles and bottle brush (believe me, the bottle brush is a life saver)
Diapers (lots of them)
Baby wipes
Diaper rash cream
Alcohol swabs (for umbilical cord)
Playpen
Burp cloths
0-12 month sizes of onsies
Rocker (my son has one that vibrates and it would put him right to sleep)
Pacifier
Diaper bag
Baby shampoo and lotion
Everything else is stuff you may need down the road, but this list is a great starting point. The list from Toys r Us has some stuff that I would never think of getting, just way too much stuff.
