Boyfriend wants to sell living room set and get a futon and round wicker chair instead?
Sadly, I'm not joking. He already has the round wicker chair (his dad bought it years ago) and he's been looking at futons.
What should I do to talk him out of this?
**Posting here because this is where I hang out.
He's never had a futon, so he just wants one. And he thinks our living room set is bulky, which it's not. He's just convined himself it is to validate what he wants to do I think.

Does he know how uncomfortable futons are?
What does the 'living room set' consist of? If it's substantially nicer than having a futon and a round wicker chair then I'd just put my foot down and say no, absolutely not. If I have to live here too then I don't want it to look like a bachelor pad!
Tell him he's not in college anymore and you are going to keep your grown up furniture.
That sounds hideous
I guess the question is, is it his to sell?
I'd give it a hell no regardless

Unless you purchased the living room furniture jointly, he's got no say in its disposition.
Did he say why? Futons are ok but it seems like your down grading.

Tell him to get over himself futons are nothing to write home about. Especailly the cheap ones. That is for college kids and people with little money. Going to a futon is like taking a step back.
Do you have a house with a basiment? If you do let him make a man cave with one. If not I would be firm on this one

Ask him when he's planning on moving back into his frat house, because that kind of furniture doesn't belong in a grown-up house.
has he been a bad boy??? maybe he's forseeing a future that includes many nights on the couch... and wants a comfy futon instead???
I'm actually thinking about getting a futon the key is to get one that looks like a real sofa. this is the one i'm getting: http://www.ward…
it's really nice and comfortable (my friend has one) I ordered mine last week.
As for the wicker chair you might be able to find a decent cover for it or you can always buy a more comfortable chair and keep the wicker one in your bedroom.

Unless you're about to have a big move with downsizing or move a lot, that is stupid. Wicker chairs and futons are a lot easier to move frequently than big couches and love seats which is probably why they're so popular with college kids. My husband and I have two futons in the living room (both the wooden framed kind that doesn't look so "fratty") but the mattresses lose their comfy factor after not very long of using them because they get weird lumps from where they sit in the frame. Also, because of their angle, it's hard to get out of them for a lot of people. We'd probably both prefer a regular couch set but don't have the money for it right now.
LOL, I had both of those...in COLLEGE! Why does he feel the need to regress? Here are a few lines that might work...
The dorm room called, they want their furniture back.
Sorry, you were outbid by two drunk dudes with a mattress on the floor.
Are you sure we'll have enough room to properly display the beeramid?

He has no say in the living room set if it's in your name as well.
Have you considered dumping him?

You have a 2 year old....She will constantly be slipping off the dam futon if its one with a removable mattress type thing or slipping around in the disc chair...Its not particularly safe with kids...
Ive had both and my daughter got hurt on both....The disc tipped right off the base and the futon mattress slipped off and she went thru the slats....Tell him when you have a basement he can have a futon......
